RMN (“Rate my Neg”, ratemyneg.com) is a small independent service for rating negronis. Here's the short, honest version of what we do with your data.
What we collect
- Your email address — used to sign you in (we email you a code) and, only if you opt in, occasional news emails.
- Your reviews— scores, notes, photos, and the venue they're attached to. These are public by design; that's the point of the site.
- Your reviewer name — chosen by you, shown publicly on your reviews. You can change it anytime.
- Location— your device's location is used transiently to centre the map and find nearby bars. We never store your personal location; only the venue's location is saved with a review.
- Comments and likes — public, like the reviews they sit under. Anyone can see who wrote a comment and who liked a neg. You can delete your own comments at any time, and the person whose neg it is can remove comments from it.
- Direct messages— if you message another member, we store the message so it can be delivered and read later. Messages are private between the two of you: nobody else can read them through the site, and the database refuses to serve them to anyone who is not in the conversation. They are not encrypted end-to-end, so as the site operator we retain the technical ability to read them, and we may do so if we have to investigate a report of abuse or are legally required to. Please don't send anything sensitive. If you have message emails switched on, a short extract of the message is included in that email, so it travels through your mail provider too.
Messaging other members
Any signed-in member can start a conversation with another member from their profile. If you would rather someone did not contact you, blocking them from the conversation hides it for both of you and stops either of you messaging the other.
Deleting your account removes your messages along with the rest of your data. Note that a copy of a message you sent still exists in the other person's conversation until their account is deleted too — the same as any messaging service.
Where it lives
Data is stored with Supabase, hosted in London, United Kingdom. The site is served by Vercel, and sign-in, order and news emails are sent via Resend. If you are in the EU or EEA, that means your data is transferred to the UK, which the European Commission has found to provide an adequate level of data protection.
Marketing
We only send news or marketing email if you ticked the box — at sign-up or on your profile. Every such email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can untick the box on your profile at any time. We never sell or share your email address.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data or for your account and everything attached to it to be deleted. Email info@ratemyneg.com and we'll sort it.
